That said, I found her reaction to the issue to be quite surprising considering many of the other social issues and values that Home and Away has touched on in recent years including sexual relationships between heterosexual couples outside of marriage, sexual relations between minors, unfaithfulness in relations, abuse of trust in relationships, overt use of drugs, underage drinking and abuse of alcohol. The actions of the producers and script writers of the show are only embracing issues that are relevant for society today, many of which are against Christian values, yet they reflect society in general.
My question to you is this: Is it right to have such a reaction based on one topic when there are so many other issues that are objectionable, or is it hypocritical in objecting to one thing but not others? Your thoughts?
I'm more concerned that Geoff, the Christian teen guy in the show has been making some pretty dodgy decisions later. For a character who has been played as a Bible basher in the past, his latest goings on are disturbing. This week, to show a girl that he was keen on that he was serious about starting a relationship with her, he sneaks her into an empty caravan and has sex with her. You can't even use the excuse that it was unintentional sin or that they were in a loving relationship and faltered. He gave himself to her to show "he was serious". To me, that's way more out of line than a non beleiver entering a homosexual relationship.
ReplyDeleteMostly i think people struggle with this the most is because they are not confronted with this. How often do you see or hear of a gay relationship in real life and on tv?
ReplyDeleteBut it is strange that people take such an offense to it. I heard that they delayed or cancelled the kiss scene between the two because viewers didnt want to see it.
On another note. I do enjoy seeing how home and away raises issues. Not that i enjoy the show, but it displays issues that people are going through in our society.
i think sometimes us Christians 'overreact' to homosexuality.
ReplyDeletewhat i mean is that it can appear to be a worse sin than other thing - for example a hetero couple having sex before marriage.
its good that sin is offensive to us - but we need to remember that sin is sin - and sexual sin is sexual sin regardless of the sexual orientation of the people involved.
so in answer to your question i think it is hypocritical - but i think the bigger issue is that the hypocrisy of it stems from deep discrimination
